The Benefits of L-Arginine

Posted by admin in Prescription Diabetes Drugs on June 09th, 2009

L-arginine is an amino acid that has tremendous benefits for diabetics. As a vaso-dilator, l-arginine can prevent diabetic neuropathy in the extremities and help with sexual dysfunction.

First. let’s discuss diabetic neuropathy. Diabetic neuropathy is a tingling and loss of sensation due to poor circulation. It is most commonly noticed in the extremities, but can also affect the gastrointestinal system and kidney function. Small blood vessels become damaged over time due to lack of circulation in diabetics. Supplementing l-arginine can help prevent this damage by dilating blood vessels and increasing circulation throughout the body. This increase in circulation will make sure that the extremities - and the major organs of the body - get enough blood flow throughout the day.

Another way that l-arginine can be beneficial to diabetics is to improve sexual function in men. It is no secret that one of the major problems with male diabetics is erectile dysfunction. Now, I am sure that your doctor will give a plethora of treatments for erectile dysfunction, including various drug therapies. Although I am not a doctor, I would suggest that a diabetic man with erectile dysfunction give l-arginine a try. This amino acid is a vaso-dilator that increases blood flow throughout the body - and that includes sexual organs. One of the main reasons that diabetic men experience erectile dysfunction is because of the decreased blood flow in that arena. L-arginine will increase blood flow, and therefore improve sexual function.

The recommended dosage of l-arginine is 1000 mg daily. If you are experiencing any type of neuropathy, it is certainly worth a try.
