That’s why free meal plans can seem like the answer you’ve been looking for. Watch out! Most free diabetes meal plans have little to offer you and may actually do more harm than good.
Danger No. 1: Who Wrote It?
If you’ve been searching around for free diabetes meal plans, you’ve probably noticed that despite their supposedly “comprehensive” nature, most are missing one important thing: an author.
The thing is, anyone with a computer and an internet connection can create his or her own free diabetic meal-plan. Some of these meal plans are packed full of junk food that will not help you manage your condition one bit. It’s important to make sure that any meal-plan you use was designed by a doctor or registered dietitian.
That way, you can be sure the meal-plan is going to be effective for the long-term.
Danger No. 2: Not Personalized
No two people are exactly the same… even if they happen to both be diabetic. That’s why cookie-cutter free diabetic meal plans should be avoided like a chocolate chip cookie washed down with a Coke.
Generic meal plans have a number of serious downsides. Firstly, they don’t address your unique circumstances like blood sugar level, body weight, medications, and insulin use.

Gone are the days of diabetic exchanges, avoiding carbs, and calorie counting. In recent years, the focus has shifted towards weight loss and physical activity as the cornerstone of managing type 2 diabetes.
However, the top-ranking diabetic meal plans on Google are eons old. They don’t reflect the current research and may actually make your disease harder to manage… not easier.
Sure, times are tough for everybody and a free diabetes meal-plan can be a very tempting proposition. However, it’s important not to sell yourself, and your health, short. If you are in need of a meal-plan, seek out your local health care provider or dietitian to make one just for you.
