Diabetes is a chronic disorder. It is caused by hormonal disturbance or improper functioning of the natural endocrine system of the body. Every diabetic patient is advised to do regular exercise by most of the physicians. But an efficient exercise or routine work out which is specially tailored for a Diabetic is rare to find.

Patients usually try walking or jogging or maybe just a stroll after dinner to fight diabetes. But do these exercises really target the Diabetes issue or are they just another general workout?

Yoga is an ancient system of India and has many branches like Asanas (or physical yogic exercises), Mudras, and Ashtanga Yoga which is aimed more at the spiritual development of an individual. Pranayamas or breathing exercises are also an integral part of Yoga that can help cure diabetes. Shalabh asana is one such Yogic pose to reduce or lower blood sugar levels or blood glucose levels.

Yoga is a part of Holistic concept of disease treatment, where not only the body but the mind and soul are also considered as sick in a diseased person. As such it is deemed necessary to include not only the body but also the mind and soul in the treatment plan too.

You have to simulate a locust in motion while doing this asana. Lie down on your tummy on a Yoga mat with your face down. Your chin is touching the mat. Keep both of your hands outstretched with palms touching the mat. Your legs are close to each other and soles facing the sky.

Inhale and slowly raise your legs above the ground. As soon as you lift your legs, the weight of your torso should be transferred to your palms. Now hold your breath to a count of five. Exhale as you slowly bring your legs back to the ground. Repeat three rounds daily.
