Controlling You Diabetes - A Chore That Must Not Be Forgotten

As of 2009 there is no cure for type 1 or type 2 diabetes. And nothing is looking promising in the next few years. This will seem to be bleak for many people that there is no cure, but there are definately ways to manage your diabetes.
The correct management can give you many health years of living. Management of diabetes starts with a visit to your GP to find out whether you are type 1 or 2. Then all management revolves around controlling your glucose level. Your glucose cycle revolves around 2 factors. The entry of glucose into the bloodstream and blood levels of the insulin to conrol the transport out. The glucose levels are very sensitive to what diet and exercise you do. So a change in anything should be discussed first with your doctor.
The correct control of diabetes can be very intrusive to someones life. The correct control requires a complete change of lifestyle, sometimes requiring frequent daily checks of your glucose level in the blood. Plus the discipline to take your medication at certain times of the day. Without fail. These can be a big intrusion to ones life, especially to someone who has just been diagnosed.
It can change as you grow older and no two people are exactly the same. But these days glucose meters are widely available, cheap and pretty easy to use with a little practice. A small drop of blood on a testing strip attached to the meter will give you a very fast reading of your blood sugar level. This will let you know when you are required to take insulin when it is required.
The Diabetes Statistics - Don't Become One

In the western world, with obesity levels reaching all time highs, the diagnosis of type 2 diabetes is growing at staggering rates. And unfortunately will only get worse. Even between 2001 to 2002 the diagnosis of diabetes rose from 5.5% to 6.5% in just one year!
Overall over 12 million US citizens have been diagnosed with diabetes and at least half that number have it but don’t know about it. And it’s estimated that another 12 million plus people are on the fast track to Type 2 Diabetes because of rising glucose levels.
Not knowing if you have this disease and the symptoms is the worst, because untreated the repercussions are terrible. These can include blindness, amputations, circulation problems and ultimately an earlier death! For most people type 2 diabetes is almost avoidable.
Doctors usually say eat better, eat less and do more exercise. The numbers show that this advice is being ignored as many Americans are overweight or obese. The statistics show that people are living for many years longer and this seems to be an upward trend. Unfortunately this will not continue if type 2 diabetes is not controlled.
Sadly, diabetes is not just a USA problem. It is spreading worldwide at epidemic rates.
So if you are currently suffering from the following symptoms;- excessive desire to drink, frequent need to urinate, increased lethargy and fatigue. Excessive hunger, severe irritation, itching, blurred vision and sudden weight loss. Take an hour out of your day and go see your doctor immediately.
Children With Diabetes? The Symptoms and Possible Causes
Posted by admin in Prescription Diabetes Drugs on October 13th, 2010
Diabetes in kids is commonly known as juvenile diabetes and is also mainly the ?type 1 diabetes. Its the most common type of diabetes in children with between 90-95% of cases diagnosed being 16 years or under.
Juvenile diabetes is usually caused by the bodies inability to produce insulin from the pancreas. It is an auto immune disease which causes the bodies own defenses to attack the bodies organs or tissues. In the last 25 years has increased three fold. In the US and Europe type 2 diabetes is starting to become more common.
Being overweight usually explains why children are becoming a type 2 diabetic. But it cannot be properly explained why type 1 is increasing. It is suspected that a combination of genetics and environment is what is triggering juvenile diabetes. A majority of children do not have a family history of diabetes.
As in adults, the symptoms of children’s diabetes is the same as in adults. Frequent thirst, weight loss, fatigue, frequent urination is pretty common. Untreated diabetes can cause serious damage. Such as kidney damage, increased likelihood of infections, damage to the eyes. Poor blood circulation to the legs and feet. Damage to the nerves and feet and a significantly increased likelihood of stroke and heart disease.?
Children with diabetes can see an increase in headaches, stomach pains and behaviour problems. If you feel that your child is experiencing any of these symptoms, you should make an appointment with your doctor without delay. And tell the doctor your suspicions.
