Rocket Fuel For ED in Diabetes
Posted by admin in Prescription Diabetes Drugs on October 06th, 2010
The first thing to be said about Erectile Dysfunction caused by diabetes is that it is different. Unlike a lot of other ED is usually does not have a performance anxiety component to it. Impotence as a consequence of diabetes tends to be much more physiological than psychological. Basically, there are two things happening here.
Number One: The blood supply to the penis is reduced. With type 1 or 2 diabetes there tends to be an increase in the rate and degree of arteriosclerosis or hardening for arteries. Thus, the capacity of small arteries to deliver blood may be slightly reduced. However, even a very small reduction in capacity of the arteries supplying the penis is sufficient to bring about ED.
Number Two: The second reason why men with diabetes may develop erectile dysfunction is neurological. It has to do with the nerves supplying the arteries to the penis. In order to develop an erection these arteries need to be able to dilate rapidly. This vasodilatation is brought about through the autonomic nervous system and this system is often compromised by diabetes.
But enough of this. Much more to the point is the question as to how to cure erectile dysfunction caused by diabetes. Of the three medications currently available to manage erectile dysfunction I tend to favour Cialis 20mg for ED associated with diabetes. It is the quickest to act and lasts the longest. Of course it may not work. If this is the case then in my view there is little point in trying either of the other two meds.
Now here is the ‘rocket fuel’ bit and it is called Testosterone. We now know that giving testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) to men with adult onset diabetes achieves two things. First of all, it reduces insulin requirements which in itself is a good thing. Within a few days of commencing TRT you will notice that you will require less sugar lowering medication to achieve the same sugar levels.
The other thing that you may very well notice is that the efficacy of medications like Viagra or Cialis improves quite dramatically. The bottom line here is this: If you suffer from erectile dysfunction associated with diabetes and this is not been adequately redressed with the usual medication then, before you move on to vacuum pumps or penis injection, you should ask your doctor to give you a trial TRT. If he refuses to do so then perhaps you should change your doctor.
