Gestational diabetes is a temporary phase of diabetes that effects the women during pregnancy. If you are pregnant then you must be aware of signs of diabetes in pregnancy. This is important for timely medical care.
The chances are that you have not ever had suffered from diabetes during your lifetime; still you are at risk of developing gestational diabetes. Diabetes is a medical condition when the body fails to convert sugar into the form of energy properly. The excessive sugar if gets piled up in the body may prove to be fetal if left untreated. Generally this diabetic condition fades away after the baby is born.
What Causes Gestational Diabetes?
It normally occurs in the last three months of pregnancy. The drastic change in the hormonal level of the body of the women is the potential cause of diabetes; as these hormones completely change the chemistry of women’s body. The specific hormones that are considered to be the root cause of diabetes during pregnancy come from placenta.
The women above the age of 30 are at an increased risk of developing diabetes during pregnancy
Signs of Gestational Diabetes
Extreme Hunger: The most common sign of gestational diabetes is extreme hunger. The growling stomach is normal in pregnancy but extreme case may represent sign of diabetes.
Excessive Thirst and Frequent Urination: Though this a normal complain for the pregnant women because the expanding uterus puts pressure on the bladder; still extreme cases must be consulted with doctor.
Excessive Weight Gain: It becomes difficult to sort out the reason of excessive weight gain during pregnancy.
If any of the above sign of diabetes is seen it is better to consult doctor.
