Posted by admin in Prescription Diabetes Drugs on October 23rd, 2010
Diabetes is a disorder of metabolism and a chronic (lifelong) disease marked by high levels of sugar in the blood. It is the third leading cause of death when remain untreated. Patient’s education about its sign and symptoms and treatment is very important because treatment of diabetes is highly individualized depending on what type of diabetes the patient has, people’s age, and family history.
Diabetes when remained uncontrolled or untreated can lead to various complications such as atherosclerosis (hardening and narrowing of the arteries), nephropathy (kidney disease), retinopathy (eye disease), microvascular disease (damage to the small vessels), cardiovascular disease (heart disease), neuropathy (nerve disease), hyperlipidemia (high cholesterol), erection problem, peripheral vascular disease, and strokes.
The symptoms of uncontrolled high blood sugar levels include weight loss despite increase in appetite brought about by insulin deficiency, dehydration because there is excess sugar buildup in the bloodstream and loss of glucose in the urine causing an increase in thirst and water consumption. There may also be fatigue, nausea, and vomiting. Blurred vision is common because the fluctuation of blood sugar affects your ability to focus clearly. Sores that heal slowly or infections that frequently occur are also reported, as well as areas of darkened skin known as acanthosis nigricans which are signs of insulin resistance. Patches of dark, velvety skin in the folds of the body usually in the armpits and neck.
Early detections of high blood sugar levels and healthy lifestyle is an important factor in preventing diabetes and related health problems because many of its symptoms seem so harmless. Once you experience one or more of these diabetic symptoms do not deny it seek medical advice immediately or better yet try the diabetes home kit test to measure you glucose level because early detection decreases the chance of developing the complications of diabetes.
