Do I Have Any Options When it Comes to Medicaid Diabetic Supply?
Posted by admin in Prescription Diabetes Drugs on December 15th, 2010
If you are older and diagnosed with diabetes, you may not be aware of the help available in getting your diabetic supplies through Medicare and Medicaid. Part B of your Medicare insurance covers durable medical equipment. This includes things like your blood glucose monitor or insulin pump. It also covers your testing strips, lancets and alcohol swabs.
It only covers 80% of these costs though, after you have met your deductable. Most people have a supplemental insurance policy that picks up the other 20%. If your one of those people that for some reason does not have this supplement insurance, this is where Medicaid can help you. Medicaid will pay for your prescription anti-diabetic drugs also.
Your next problem is having to decide where to get your diabetic supplies from. You can go to your local pharmacy or enroll with one of the mail order diabetic supply companies. It is usually easier, especially for the elderly, to enroll with one of the mail order diabetic supply companies. These companies have easy sign up, supply almost everything you could need, and deliver it to your door.
These companies will even send reminders to you when it is time to renew, or you could join one of the companies that have automatic refill services available. All of these companies have diabetic experts or educators on staff that will help with any questions you might have about your supplies. Many of these companies only require you to fill out a simple form, or call and answer a few questions and they do everything else including call your doctor to get the information necessary to personalize the supplies they send you. It is really worth it to give these services a look. They will save you time, money and trouble.
