Isn’t it amazing that in this modern world with all its technology and resources many people are still unaware of the roll their lifestyles play on their bodies health.

Diabetes also referred to as the silent killer quietly moves under the radar undetected by the host and is often a high contributor to other related diseases such as Heart Disorders, High Blood Pressure and Kidney Disease just to name a few.

Well let me tell you a story about a friend of mine Samantha. Sam and I are very close friends we have been friends for as long as I can remember. One thing you should know about Sam is that she is the life of the party the bell of the ball always jolly and always cooking up something crazy in her head, I’m sure everyone got a friend like Sam. Something began to change in Sam, all of a sudden what used to be a person full of life and energy became a person that was always feeling fatigue not wanting, to do much, and I passed it off as a phase that she would eventually come out of. Boy was I wrong, things only started to go down hill from there.

One day I received a phone call from Sam’s mother letting me know that Sam was just rushed to hospital, she had slipped into a coma. Without a second thought I rushed off to the hospital where I was met by her mother. She had just received the results from the blood test that they done on Sam and they diagnosed her with having Diabetes Mellitus Type 2. I was so devastated and at the same time I was angry with myself how could I not have seen the signs. I sat down with her mother as the doctor explained to us the signs that Sam must have had and the treatment that they had put her on. I then realized that most of the signs the doctor was telling us about anybody would naturally over look. The main sign was her urinating a lot but we thought it was because she drank so much water, the doctor explained to us that it was because she was urinating so much that she needed to drink a lot of water, it all made sense.

It has been a few years now Sam is back to her usual self but more importantly is the knowledge that we gained from that experience and the months that came after. This is what I’m sharing with you today so that you can be made aware of the signs and the effects diabetes can have on your life.

Signs and symptoms of diabetes

Diabetes is often referred to as the silent killer, because so many of its symptoms can be easily overlooked. Find out the signs and symptoms of diabetes.

Many people have type2 diabetes and do not know it. Many have no signs or symptoms. Symptoms can also be so mild that you might not even notice them. Some people have symptoms but do not suspect diabetes.

Symptoms include

1) Increased urination

2) Increased thirst

3) Weakness & fatigue

4) Tingling or loss of feeling in hands or feet

5) Recurring gum or skin infection

6) Recurring vaginal or bladder infection

7) Blurred vision

Sores that do not heal

9) Increased hunger

10) Weight gain or lose

11) Irritability

These are some of the most common signs and symptoms of diabetes.

The other signs and symptoms of diabetes include

1) Nausea

2) Vomiting

3) Yeast infections

4) Dry mouth

5) Itching of the skin (especially around groin or vaginal area)

6) Headaches

7) Impotency

Tingling and numbness of hands and feet

9) Flu-like symptoms

With early diagnosis and treatment, this complication of uncontrolled diabetes may be avoided.
