Diabetes Meal Planning

Posted by admin in Prescription Diabetes Drugs on May 24th, 2011

If you’ve been recently diagnosed as a diabetic, or have been living with it for a long time, it is never too late to begin diabetes meal planning in order to better manage your condition.

Diabetes is on the increase and our diets are greatly contributing to these rising numbers. But even if you are diabetic, you can still live a relatively normal and healthy life - provided you keep track of what you eat everyday.

Here are some tips if you are going to start a diabetes meal plan:

1. Make sure you avoid the bad fats (saturated). These are found in most processed and junk foods as well as fast foods.

2. Ensure you are getting a daily dose of quality fibre such as from wholemeal bread or rice and vegetables.

3. Eat smaller meals regularly instead of large meals. This is very important for a diabetic to avoid blood glucose spikes and dips.

4. When you eat check out your daily food plan and find an item on the menu that fits in well with it.

5. Don’t snack on junk food, instead only have healthy snacks like fruit and nuts.

Sticking To a Meal Plan

when you first start diabetes meal planning you might find it difficult to transition from your old habits, but it won’t take long to become used to your new routine. And since you will start feeling better almost immediately, you will have no desire to go back and make the same mistakes as you may have in the past!
