A blood glucose testing meter is an important device that no diabetic should be without. If you have diabetes type 1 then you must be checking your blood sugar a few times daily.
There are many diabetes meters available but they are not all the same. Some work very well whilst others are not so accurate. and when it comes to your health, you can not risk using an inaccurate meter. Although price should be a consideration, don’t skimp on buying a device as it can literally save your life. With that said, you can aim to get a free diabetic test meter so that you can trial new products to see if they suit your needs.
So what is the difference between the various blood glucose meters, or glucometers?
Most of them are quite accurate these days, but there are often differences in the number of features offered. Whilst most work the same way, it is these extra features that can make all the difference.
Memory
Built in memory is one feature that is highly sought after. It is great to be able to store data from your previous tests. Don’t settle for a glucometer that only stores 50, 100 or even only 200 past test results. Instead aim to get one that stores at least 300 tests. Some can store over 500.

If you like to keep organized and are comfortable using a computer then choose a meter that lets you download the data to your PC. This lets you email the results right to your doctor and allows you easy access to your results at any time.
