Preventing and Treating Diabetes and Syndrome X
Posted by admin in Prescription Diabetes Drugs on June 03rd, 2011
Syndrome X refers to the risk factors associated with diabetes that includes:
Excessive fat around the abdomen.
Low levels of HDL cholesterol - less than 40mg/dl
in men, less than 50mg/dl in woman.
Fasting blood triglycerides of 150 or higher.
Elevated blood pressure - 130/85 or higher.
Insulin resistance.
In the US it is estimated that 60 million adults have four or more of the above conditions which means they have twenty-five times greater risk of developing diabetes. This is a very serious health issue for all of us and should be addressed right away by anyone in the above category.
The dietary, lifestyle, and supplement strategies for prevention and treatment of type 2 diabetes also works for syndrome X as well.
The most effective ways to treat these conditions is to lose weight, get plenty of exercise and carefully watch your diet. Relaxing meditation will help bring it all together.
A proper diet will generally allow you to lose from one to two pounds a week depending on your weight. Good eating habits and exercise are key to losing weight and keeping it off.
Just as important is your mental state in controlling blood sugar. Learn to relax and don’t let stress lead your thinking. Your body is not made to stand modern day stress. It might pay for you to take up Yoga or Tai-Chi.
Ignore the messages of the mass media that are constantly pushing unhealthy food choices at us. Instead, choose to be healthy for a long disease free life by leading a health-promoting lifestyle.
It’s never too late to start and if you are already diabetic, you can greatly improve your condition.
